Your Weekly Hair Wellness Routine (for Extensions that Last Longer)

Why a routine matters

Extensions don’t draw oils and nutrients from your scalp like your natural hair does, which means they need a little extra love.  With thoughtful care, you’ll keep that luxe look longer and protect your natural hair in the process.


Monday: Reset + Detangle

Start the week right. Before washing, use a wide-tooth comb or an extension-safe brush, starting at the ends and working upward while holding the base of the weft/attachment. This minimises tension and protects your hair.  After detangling, tie your hair in a loose braid or ponytail overnight so bed time friction is minimal.


Tuesday: Gentle Wash + Hydration

Use a high quality shampoo and focus the lather on your scalp. Keep the rinse direction downward so you’re kind to the wefts.  Then apply our Neish favourite Mon Platin Hyloren mask. 


Wednesday: Serum & Protective Styling

Mid-week is all about moisture and styling with intention. Apply a lightweight serum like the Hyloren Colour Serum to the mid-lengths and ends. Opt for a protective style like a low loose braid or a chic ponytail for minimal tug, maximum style.

Thursday: Low-Heat Styling + Refresh

If you’re using heat tools, keep the temperature moderate and use a heat protectant (think ≤ 180 °C / 356 °F) to safeguard your extensions.  You might refresh your look with soft waves or a luxe blow-out but keep it gentle. Evening: wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf or pillowcase to reduce friction while you sleep.


Friday: Scalp Care

Time to give the roots some love. Use a hair oil like rosemary oil and massage in to stimulate your scalp as a treatment before washing your hair.


Saturday: Swim & Sun Protection

If you’re at the beach or pool, salt water and chlorine are not your extensions’ best friends. Rinse your hair with fresh water first and apply a leave-in conditioner or oil to shield your strands. After swimming, rinse again and restore hydration.  Optional: wear a swim cap for extra protection. Style-wise: keep it relaxed. The less manipulation, the better.


Sunday: Rest & Recover

Give your hair a break. No heat, no tight styles. Just a gentle bristle brush, a loose bun or braid, and maybe a light mist of leave-in or volumising spray at the roots if you want tomorrow ready. Extend that moment of luxe by applying a weekly hair mask if your extensions are feeling extra thirsty.

Bonus Tips to Make Them Last Longer


  • Brush twice daily (morning & night) to prevent tangling and matting. Start at the ends and hold the base of the extension to prevent pulling.

  • Avoid heavy silicones, alcohol-based sprays and oil-heavy products near the wefts

  • Keep regular professional maintenance appointments, your extensions live longer when they’re properly adjusted.

  • Before bed: braid or twist your hair, use a silk pillowcase or wrap your hair to reduce friction and tangles overnight.
